Statement of Jelena Jankovic | 26.01.2011.

With great sorrow, I have to inform all my fans and tennis friends that this time I will not be able to play for FED cup tie for Serbia against Canada.
I haven’t made this decision easily, because I think it is a great honor and duty of every athlete to play for the national team of its country.

As you know, I had eye surgery in quite an unappropriate time for myself, in the moment when the preparations for the following season should have been in its peak. Therefore, I did not have time to reach the level I wanted. Because of that, I made poor result in the first grand slam of the season, which disappointed me a lot. I am aware that right now I have to complete my preparations so that I could give my maximum in the next FED cup tie. For the same reason, I did not apply for the tournament which follows this FED cup.

On the other hand, I am delighted with the fact that we have other young players in our FED cup team, led by Bojana Jovanovski, Aleksandra Krunic and Tamara Curovic, and Ana Jovanovic who is quite an experienced player. So, I hope they will contribute to the success of our national team, and manage to achieve victory over Canada. I wish them lot of luck and success, and I hope that I will join them for the next match.

If my shape improves in the next seven days, I will certainly be in the team against Canada, but in any case, I will be with all my heart with our players.

Jelena met Queen Elizabeth II | 24.06.2010.

Her Majesty, British Queen Elizabeth II paid a visit today to Wimbledon for the first time since 1977. A reception was organized in her honor, which only seven players from abroad could attend and meet the Queen: Serena Williams, Roger Federer, Caroline Wozniacki, Jelena Jankovic, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Roddick.

– I have seen Queen Elizabeth II in person for the first time in my life, and it was a great honor, since I was among the players she personally welcomed. For me, as a player, Wimbledon is unique for many reasons – it is played on grass, it has its long tradition, and there is this overall atmosphere which surrounds the entire tournament. Furthermore, Wimbledon has a special charm for me, since I won the title in the mixed doubles here with Jamie Murray. It was the first title for Britain in more than 20 years on this tournament.

JJ in Guinness Book of World Records! | 16.10.2009.

By placing a mosaic composed of 137,264 photographs of smiling faces in Belgrade Arena on October 15th 2009, Serbia, Wrigley’s chewing gum Orbit and Jelena Jankovic have entered Guinness Book of World Records!

The campaign named “We collect smiles and we need the one from you as well” was aimed at collecting the biggest number of photographs of smiles in the World. It was organized by Wrigley and promoted by Jelena Jankovic who was earlier this year chosen to be the brand ambassador for Wrigley’s most famous chewing gum brand Orbit. This campaign lasted from March 1st until September 20th and during this time more than 135,000 photographs was gathered and composed into the biggest smiles mosaic in the World, measuring more than 930 square meters in surface. By gathering 23,271 photographs more and making a 70 square meters bigger mosaic, Serbia has broken the record set last year in the city of Birmingham, UK.

Numerous smiling photographs have landed on the web site or arrived by post, but more than 80,000 photographs was collected by orbit’s “smiling patrols” this Summer at the bank of Danube river in Zemun and Ada Ciganlija. Only by smiling, having fun with Orbit and Jelena Jankovic and posting the smiling photographs of themselves and their closest ones, the citizens of Serbia have out-reached the magical number of needed photographs and thusly brought victory to Serbia.
Jelena Jankovic, Serbian best tennis player, who is famous not only for her good tennis, but also for her dazzling smile, has stated that she simply enjoyed participating in Orbit’s campaign as she was able to demonstrate to the entire world how really beautiful things take place in Serbia and that we have a lot to brag about.

Jelena also added: I’ve kept watching on the internet how the number of collected photographs grows and I was very happy to realize that I was the one to motivate all those people to enter Guinness Book of World Records with their smiles. A smile is and has always been such an important part of my personality. Up to now it was sort of my trademark, but now that we have broken the world record, it will become the trademark of Serbia as well. Helping Serbia enter the Guinness Book of World Records was of huge importance for me, because from now on I will be able to say that my country is known not only for its tennis players, but for the biggest number of smiles in the world. And I was the part of all that!

Wrigley’s senior filed force manager Mr. Dragan Svilanovic didn’t have enough words to express his pleasure in achieving the set goal, but also his happiness that Jelena was the one to help Wrigley achieve it.

He stated: “Our JJ added a very special tone to the campaign, because she has in the best possible way and with her own example demonstrated to the citizens of Serbia how success is achieved and how we can break Guinness record in making a photo-mosaic. The task was not at all easy, but we’ve succeeded. We can say that right now entire Serbia helped by Orbit and Jelena Jankovic celebrates its big smiling victory!”

Have you already heard that…

… the world record, the largest photo mosaic, which has set in Birmingham, United Kingdom 2008, IS BROKEN!
And do you know who broke it?! Citizens of Serbia and Orbit in campaign ’We collect smiles and we need yours!’

It all started…

On 1st March 2009 when Orbit and Jelena Jankoviæ, full of enthusiasm, started collecting smiles. Their optimism overwhelmed citizens of Serbia, and we have all together after long and not even a little struggle managed to break the Guinness record in the number of photos with smiles. Patrols, e-mails, web site… finally we reached the magical figure of 130000 photos!

Expecting us…

Our Orbit photo mosaic, composed of over 128 000 photos of your smiles, we will proudly show on Partizan basketball courts at Kalemegdan, at the end of September (we’ll let you know the date!).
Come and bring smiles that brought us record.

Yours – Jelena Jankovic and Orbit!

Serbia against Russia in Belgrade | 03.06.2009.

Serbian Federation Cup team will play against Russia, at home in the first round of World group A in 2010.

Such decision was made on today’s draw held in Tennis Museum at Roland Garros in Paris.
The matches of the first round in World group A are scheduled for 6th and 7th of February 2010. Serbia will host Russia in Belgrade.

– Russia is the toughest opponent we could get, but, luck was on our side since we are to play at home. If it were the opposite, if we had to travel to Moscow, it would have been a disaster – this match is to be played just after the Australian open, and we would have to adapt from plus 30 degrees Celsius to minus 30 degrees, which is the normal temperature in Moscow in that time of year. Furthermore, we would have to play indoor, which also requires time for adaptation. Therefore, at home is warmer, in any sense of the meaning.

The atmosphere will be great, we will play in front of our fans, and even our winters are milder. So, everything is much greater. Russia is a powerful team, with a large choice of players for their coach. But, Ana and I played against all of them, and we beat them, so if we are healthy in that period, I believe we can make another great show in Belgrade, and bring joy to our fans -said Jelena Jankovic.
